CRITERIA
Every year students are given state assessments as a part of the "No Child Left Behind" federal requirements. The results of the tests are considered as high stakes for Kansas public schools. It is part of our accreditation process and it shows we are making "Adequate Yearly Progress" (AYP). Schools are expected to improve every year until by the year 2014 all of our students score proficient or above.
Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades are tested each year in math and reading. Fourth grade students are tested every other year in science, and fifth grade students are tested every other year in writing. All grades tested at McLean have exceeded the anual AYP goals. Additionally, if at least 25% of students in a class or building-wide score in the "Exemplary" range with 5% or fewer in "Academic Warning", they receive the designation of "Standard of Excellence."
