Executive Reports

Principal’s Report – Tina Young

• State testing season has arrived! - Info will be coming out for those families who have students who are participating in that.  Snacks will be provided for the students taking tests.  Science first, then ELA, then Math.
• Tech Tales coming up April 30.  We want as many kids here as possible to attend Tech Tales and show their learning.  Hoping for 100% participation.  More information will be coming home soon.  Last year we had about 60-70% attendance.  Family time is from 6:00-7:30. Students will wear McLean swag or “science” swag.  Students will use Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening objectives to showcase their learning either from the entire year or a snapshot of what they are currently working on.   Families will have the opportunity to not only see what their child is learning but will also have the opportunity to go throughout the school to see what other kids are doing. 
• 3rd Quarter RCA will be May 5th (Tuesday), 4th Quarter RCA will be celebrated on the lsat day of school along with 5th grade graduation.
• Mrs. Oelze is retiring, and position has been posted. 

President’s Report – Lindsay Miller

Got the Early Bird price quote of $1,799 for Mystery Science.  The price has gone up, but staff do seem to be utilizing it.  With the revitalization of the magenet theme, the usage has gone up, and it’s anticipated that the usage will continue to increase.  All teachers have access to this.  This is currently in our budget for this year to pay for next year’s (26-27) subscription. 

Treasurer’s Report – Tabitha Tolle

• Gave an updated budget report. 
• Spike (science lizard) needed some extra vet care.  PTA was able to pay for these. 
• Tabitha will send reminders to teachers about what allocations they have left.

Other Reports

BOGO Book Fair

• This will happen on Tech Tales night, April 30.  Karen will create a sign up for people to help work the event. 

Family Night Out – Colette Atkinson

• April 6 - Chick-Fil-A 3:00 - 10:00 pm @ Maple and Ridge
• May 15 - All Star Sports West 5:00-8:00 pm – Tabitha will be there to take payment via square.

Spring Fundraiser – April 13^th -17^th

• Shannon will make a flyer.
• Pennies and cash are positive points, along with square (online) and checks.
• Any silver change (nickels, dimes, quarters,etc.) are negative points. 
• 25 cents equal 25 points.  So, $1.00 equals 100 points. 
• Students will bring ther coins in at the beginning ofeach school day so they can be collected and counted.  Grade levels will compete against one another. 
• If possible, a STUCO rep can do a PA announcement of the top grade level at the end of the day. 
• Flyer will go home to students with fundraiser information and QR codes for each grade level if people want to donate online. 
• Winning grade level wins a pizza party at the end of the day.  Date will be determined after the funderaiser is over.

Field Day – May 8^th

• T-shirt designs have been finalized. Order forms will be sent home soon.
• Will need a volunteer to help with coordinating with Mr. Doornbos.

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 4^th – 8^th

Teacher Luncheon

• Lunch provided on Wednesday May 6^th.  Karen will create a sign up for this.
• Katey’s family owns a restaurant, so they are willing to help us out.
• Katey will email about a quote.
• Ideas for Thank you gifts
  • At April meeting, we will have thank you cards to teachers and staff, so everyone gets a handwritten thank you from someone. 

Graduation Walk Through

• Shannon and Ms. Weigant are working on tracking down past students so they can be contacted. 
• Date/Time TBD.
• Won’t need much from PTA other than maybe a couple of parents to be here to help coordinate the parade, hand out water bottles, chat with parents.

New Officers 26-27 School Year – Nominations

• President position will be open next year.  We will vote on new officers for next year at the April meeting.

Principal’s Report – Tina Young

• Testing season is here, KELPa is taking place, this is a proficiency test for our English Language Learner students.
• February 20 - Spirit Day is coming up, students may dress up as an animal.  We’ve been learning about animals/habitats.
• Cereal box challenge went well. 
• February 11th - Valentine’s Day Parties, Planetarium, hopefully we can earn 100 on the paw print chart and include this reward on this day as well (sweet treat, board game, etc)
• Attendance is steady, about 95%, positive reinforcement is given to those who are here.
• Student Led conferences are coming up February 10-12.
• Mrs. Oelze will be retiring at the end of the year.

President’s Report – Lindsay Miller

• Gave a Read-A-Thon update.  It was an easy, non-invasive fundraiser.  Prizes have been distributed to students.

Treasurer’s Report – Tabitha Tolle

• Went over the updated budget
• Final Read-A-Thon total was approximately $4100.  We went with a different incentive package this year compared to last year.  This year, Read-A-Thon provided the prizes rather than PTA providing the prizes so that made our overall take less than last year.
• Lego Spike science kits will be ordered soon for the Science Department.
• Need to send a reminder to teachers/departments about their budgets so they know what is available.
• Science Department Iguana (Spike) needs some medical attention so PTA will be covering that.

Other Reports

Book Fair – Claire Kelderman

• The book fair arrives tomorrow, will be set up Friday, student preview day Monday.
• Ms. Hoss is looking into taking a different reward option from a different company. 
• Family Nights Out

New Business

Spring Fundraiser – Dates and Details

• Will be the week of April 13.  “Coin Wars” fundraiser.
• Dollars/other bills, checks, and pennies will count as positive points, slvier coins will be negative. 1 cent = 1 point, so $1.00 = 100 points
• QR code so people can donate online
• Grade levels will compete against one another. 
• Pizza party for the grade level who raises the most.
• Shannon is working on a flyer for this event.

Field Day - May 8

• Need a volunteer(s) to help coordinate with Mr. Doornbos
• T shirts will be available to order
• Need to send an email to people who said they’d be interestied in helping.

Upcoming Open President position

• April Meeting will be when we elect new officers.  Working on finding people for the upcoming open President position.

Executive Reports 

Principal’s Report – Tina Young 

Academics   

• Goal: In 36 instructional weeks, the building comprehensive screener data will improve from 66.6% to 70% proficiency by the end of the 25-26 school year. 

• Overall building data has been in the top 10% district wide.  We are at 66% proficiency, but the district goal is 80%.  Typically, our data, district wide, experiences a slump this time of year, but there is usually a big boost in the Spring towards the end of the school year. 

• At the beginning of the year we were ranked 14th, district wide.  At our most recent data point, we were ranked 9th.  Our overall percentage went down but our district wide ranking went up. 

• Grade levels will have scoreboards posted after conferences to track student data. 

Behavior 

• Goal: In 36 instructional weeks, the number of classroom and outside incidents of 95 will decrease by 10% by the end of the 25-26 school year. 

• At the end of the 1st quarter, we had 4 incidents. By the end of the 2nd quarter, we had 28.   

• We are also working on having as quiet hallways as possible.  Ms. Young gives out Paw Prints to classrooms as they are meeting expectations.  Once they reach 100 Paw Prints, they can earn a class wide incentive.  Ms. Young is open to any incentive ideas you may have. 

Safety and Belonging 

• Goal: Increase average daily attendance from 94.5% to 97% by the end of the 25-26 school year. 

• McLean attendance is typically higher than the district. By the end of the 2nd quarter, we were at 95.3%.  Each classroom works on Second Step curriculum to focus on Social Emotional Skills.  This helps build a sense of community. 

Making connections with the Science Magnet Theme 

• January focus is Power and Change. Empty cereal boxes are needed on January 23rd for a school-wide event. 

Upcoming Events 

• RCA coming up February 3rd. 

• Student Led conferences February 10th - 12th 

• Valentine’s Day parties on February 11th.   

• A parent donated funds for an All-School experience in a mobile planetarium from Ad Astra. This will occur on February 11th. 

• No School closures slated for 2026 as of Thursday January 8th. 

• Site Council will be March 5th at 6:15 pm.

Went over the updated budget for the month. 

Discussed two mini grants 

• Science department requested funds to finish off the Lego Spikes kits to allow each set of 2 students (with a class of 22 students) their own kit.  Motion was made and approved to allow funds for one Lego set. 

• Music department requested funds to take the 5th graders to the Young People’s Concert in January. After much discussion, it was decided to deny grant due to budget constraints. 

Other Reports 

Fall Fundraiser – Read-a-thon 

• We have received a check for $3,300 from Read-A-Thon.   

• Should be getting another check with the rest of the funds. 

• Prizes will be distributed soon. 

New Business 

Book fair – February 10 – 12 – Claire Kelderman 

• Volunteers are needed to help with set up, student preview day, running the fair, and tear down.  Sign-up has been created 

Staff luncheon – February 11th 

• Karen Henning will coordinate.  We decided during the meeting to do a soup luncheon.   

• Sign-up has been created for volunteers to bring/send items and help with the event. 

Spring Fundraiser – Coin Wars, should occur in April. 

Spring pictures: March 9th – Madaline will help with Spring Pictures.

●        Went over the updated budget report, Membership fees and insurance have been paid.  Other tax forms have been submitted.

●        Went over mini grant applications. 

○        Mini grant to send 3rd grade to Nutcracker was voted on and approved.

○        Mini grant for math fluency devices for 2nd grade (Ms. Gomez) was voted on and approved.

Other Reports

Boogie on the Blacktop

●        Next year, increase pizza quantity so more people can buy them.  It was suggested we need at least 10-15 more pizzas for next year. We purchased the same number as 2024.  Handing cookies out rather than bagging them went faster.

Texas Roadhouse Luncheon (during Fall Conferences)

●         The baked potato bar went very well.  We got lots of food and the staff was very appreciative. Thank you to all who donated items!

October Spirit Nights

●        Freddy’s Frozen custard - about $60 profit.  We were unable to send a Parentlink to remind families about this since the site was down.  This may have affected participation.

●        Skate Night - around 45-50 kids participated.  We thought this was good attendance considering it fell on a non-school day.

Book Fair

●        Great volunteer turnout.  Two cash registers this year so that helped during check-out.  Things went very smoothly.  Sales, $4,000+, Earned $2,000+ Scholastic dollars.  Used a portion of the Scholastic Dollars for books for the classrooms and birthday books.  The remaining Scholastic Dollars will be used to buy more library books.  Compared to last year, takings were pretty much identical to last October's book fair.  The next book fair will be in February 2026 during Conferences.

●        Ashley in the office is updating the Holiday Teacher Wish List link from last year.  This will be sent out so families can see what specific teachers want and/or needs.

●        Tabitha is working on the Teacher Favorites pages as well. 

Holiday PTA luncheon – 12/18 – Need Volunteer

●        Karen and Claire will tag team

●        Decided as a group to do a catered sandwich bar/trays (restaurant TBD) and have volunteers send desserts, sides, drinks, etc.

Spring Fundraiser

●        Discussed several alternative names to “Penny Wars” since the penny is being discontinued.  We would like to go forward with the fundraiser using a different name and possibly changing it up a bit but the overall concept of kids bringing in loose change is the same.

Old Business Executive Reports

Principal’s Report – Tina Young

• Ms. Young reviewed the goals she introduced to the PTA in September. 
• Went over the BlookIt event from September. Overall good participation. Hoping for a larger group in October.  Every month there is a different theme.
• Behavior goal - decrease the amount of incidents/referrals.  When students are following CHAMPS expectations, the class is given a ticket to put the teacher’s name on it. Classes with the most tickets will get the prize. Students are encouraged to come up with an incentive and there will be a school wide vote.
• Safety and Belonging/Second Step - Working on attendance initiatives.  Classes earn groups of ten and then they get a pencil. Individual incentives include “ Yay! You are here!” when students get their picture taken and a Jason’s Deli gift card.

• Conferences - October 14th-16th
• All school Exploration Place field trip -  Dec 17th.  This is fully paid for by the Magnet Office for students. Permission slips will be electronic this year.

Room Parent Update - Tabitha

• Two teachers still need room parents.  Tabitha will reach out to them to see if they have anyone in mind.  Tabitha will send out room parent information to those who have volunteered.

Fall Fundraiser – Read A Thon

• November 8^th – December 12^th
• This has been successful in the past so we are doing it again!  Flyers will go home about the week before.  Info can be sent out to friends/family far and near.  Typically this is our largest fundraiser. Bulk of the prizes will be provided by Read-a-Thon.  We will do some smaller prizes (coupons) for milestones reached.  Milestones/coupons have yet to be decided.

PUSIC/Boogie on the Blacktop “Super Heroes” theme this year – 10/9

• Food served starting at 5:30 pm and dancing to start at 6:00 pm
• Sign up is online for clean up/set up/help
• Kids are encouraged to wear superhero costumes if they want to.

Old Business Executive Reports

Principal’s Report – Tina Young

• Academics Goal - In 36 instructional weeks, increase building comprehensive screener data to 70% from 66.6% by end of the 25-26 year.
• Mrs. Young will check in with at least 12 K-5 students, 4-5 days/week during core instruction (literacy or math) to see if they know what standard is being taught and how they feel about their level of understanding at the time.
• Behavior Goal - In 36 instructional weeks, the number of classroom and outside incidents of 95 will decrease by 10% by the end of the 25-26 school year.
• Mrs. Young will give targeted STOIC feedback to 2 Specials classrooms during instruction weekly.
• Attendance - Increase average daily attendance from 94.5% to 97%  by the end of the 25-26 school year.
• Safety and Belonging: Mrs. Young will provide feedback to a minimum of 6 classes on relational circles during SEL time, 3 times a week.

President’s Report – Lindsay Miller

• STEMusic program - special guest Roy Moye III performing two sessions, K-2 and 3rd-5th, October 7 during the school day at McLean.  PTA is paying for this fun event.
•  Volunteer of the Semester - Recognize people who are volunteering throughout the school.  If you’d like to submit someone for this honor, please let someone from the PTA board know.
• Community Support Opportunity - Pop tab collection for Ronald McDonald House.  There are flyers we will send home to let people know to start collecting and sending them back to the school.  PTA already has a collection bin for the pop tabs.  RMH will come pick up the tabs for us.

Proposed Budget was presented. - Collette Atkinson motioned to approve, Alexis Willems second, Budget approved.

Mini Grant Proposals

• 2nd grade - small rolling white board for student and teacher use. Tabitha is going to check with the teacher to see specifically what she wants and check with the district to see if there is something comparable available. The Board suggested the item be approved pending what Tabitha finds out.  Alexis Willems motioned to approve, Madeline Hayes second.  Motion approved.
• Gifted - Social Studies curriculum supplement to be used for appox 20+ students.  Sarah Leonard motions to approve, Katie Rodriguez second.  Motion approved.

PUSIC/Boogie on the Blacktop – 10/9 

• Superhero Theme this year
• PTA will have a sign up for people to help.  We will have pizza (Little Caesars, $10 each) for sale again this year, water and cookies also provided.
•  Need Lead volunteer: Lisa Vogel, Madeline Hayes, and Katie Rodriguez will take this on.  Thank you!!

Fall Fundraiser - Read-a-thon, all online

• Dates: November 8^th – December 12^th
• Flyers will go home a few weeks before the start date.  Prizes will be provided by the company.  We will get 75% return on this fundraiser. Prizes for Minutes read and Dollars raised - may be rewarded with coupons.
